Hearing aids and devices

The right hearing aid, fitted properly

No two ears are the same. We recommend hearing aids and accessories based on your hearing, your lifestyle and your budget, then fit them with care.

Hearing aid types

Four main styles, each with strengths

We look at your ear health, the shape of your ear canal, your hearing loss and how you live before recommending a style.

BTE

Behind the ear

Sits behind the ear and holds all the working parts. Sound travels through a thin tube to a custom earpiece. Mini versions are available.

ITE

In the ear

Custom moulded to fill the outer ear. Easy to handle and water-repellent, with volume control and a large battery for longer life.

CIC

Completely in the canal

Moulded to sit inside the ear canal, so it is barely visible and less affected by wind noise. Suits mild to moderate hearing loss.

IIC

Invisible in the canal

Smaller than a CIC and fitted deep in the canal, close to the eardrum. Effectively invisible, with less distortion.

Hearing aid accessories

Stream sound straight to your hearing aids

Accessories send audio from other devices directly to your hearing aids, so you hear more clearly without turning everything up.

Remote microphones

Matchbox-sized microphones that improve speech clarity in noisy places, sending a direct, long-range signal to your hearing aids.

TV links

Connect to the back of the television and send sound wirelessly to your hearing aids, so the volume suits everyone in the room.

Mobile phone links

Most smartphones connect to modern hearing aids directly. A link device makes calls clearer for phones that do not.

Assistive listening devices

Extra help at home and out and about

Assistive listening devices make everyday situations easier, from phone calls and doorbells to meetings and classrooms. New devices appear all the time, and we match the technology to your hearing needs. A hearing assessment is the best place to start.

At home

  • Phones with loudspeakers, large displays and distortion-free volume control
  • Alerting devices such as smoke alarms, phone alerts, doorbell lights and alarm clocks
  • TV and music devices such as neck loops, wireless headphones and ear hooks

Out and about

  • Bluetooth remote controls and headsets
  • FM systems that send a speaker's voice by radio, for example from teacher to student
  • Infrared systems and hearing loops that carry sound to your hearing aid in larger rooms
  • Wearables that combine a hearing aid with wireless headphones, adjusted from an app

Our fitting procedure

Five steps to hearing well again

Hearing aids only help when they are fitted properly, so every fitting follows the same careful process.

  1. Hearing aid evaluation

We check your ear health and ask about your general health, lifestyle and ear history, then choose tests based on your symptoms.

  2. Choosing your hearing aid

Using your results, your budget and how you live, we recommend a hearing aid from the manufacturers we work with.

  3. Ear impressions

For custom or behind-the-ear aids, we take impressions of your ears so earmoulds can be made to fit you exactly.

  4. Programming and education

We fit and program your hearing aids, show you how to use and adjust them, and explain how to look after them.

  5. Getting used to them

Give your brain time to adjust to new sounds. If your hearing aids still do not feel right after a few days, come back and we will fine-tune them.
